Maths

Maths underpins so much of our daily lives – it’s a lot more than a school subject.

One-to-one coaching gives you a chance to open up about areas that you’re finding difficult. The sessions are friendly and constructive, and we can find different ways in to help your understanding and learning.

In my experience as a scientist, maths is the foundation of everything. Physics is applied maths. Chemistry is applied physics. Biology is applied chemistry.

Even if science isn’t your future path, a good understanding of maths is a vital tool for life beyond school! And it’s great training for your brain. In many ways it’s like learning a language, spotting patterns and building new sentences based on the rules you already know.

Pattern recognition

In exams, students are often required to boil down a description in words into formulae that summarise the problem.

Coaching can help you spot patterns, and gain the confidence to work out which approach to apply, to help you to find a way in to tackling a problem.

Getting unstuck

It’s not unusual to feel really stuck on a particular aspect of your maths studies, and this can start to affect how much progress you make in your everyday lessons.

For example, going from index laws to algebraic equations can feel like a maze – but once you find your way in (and out) of that maze, lots of other stuff falls into place.

Exam prep

Maths coaching helps you tackle exam requirements. We build on the content you’ve been taught in school, and broaden your understanding of the subject. We look at techniques that you can use to tackle maths problems and apply your knowledge.
